Massive Intestinal Resection
Abstract
The authors experienced two cases of massive intestinal resection. The first case was operated for volvulus. Cause of the volvulus was cystic lymphangioma of the jejunum.
The second case was operated for superior mesenteric artery occlusion. Remaining small intestine was 9 cm only.
Ater massive small intestine resection, patients suffered from diarrhea, steatorrhea, hypoproteinemia, weight loss and other nutritional disturbances.
Surgical alterations of bowel continuity and of normal peristaltic dynamics to minimize nutritional deficiency after massive bowel resection are presented with review of the literatures.
